Art Spaces

30 May 2014, 16:30 – 18:00

Workshop : Artspaces
Final Meeting & Discussion

Artspaces not only provide artists a public interior to exhibit their artwork, but also architects a rich platform to rethink their design practices under the pressing dynamics of contemporary art world and global processes of urban transformation. Workshop:Artspaces aims to reveal various global/local impacts that both motivate and restrict the design of artspaces today. On April 19, BAU Architecture students discovered various spaces of contemporary art in Tophane and Karaköy in a field walk starting from BAU Art Gallery and presented their analysis of the art-architecture-urbanism practices by the end of the day at Studio-X Istanbul. On May 30, they will share their final analysis and generate a round table discussion in presence of three critics, architect Şevki Pekin, BAU Art's director Jochen Proehl and Ela Kaçel.

The event is open to public.

Workshop : Artspaces is organized as part of "Contemporary Turkish Architecture" course offered at Bahçeşehir University in Spring 2014 with the support of the Faculty of Architecture and Design. Professor/curator Elke Krasny of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and BAU Art's director/curator Jochen Proehl joined Ela Kaçel and her students for the workshop.
