LEARNING FROM FILM SPACES

In architectural education, we value conception, representation and design of space as a continuum of experiences and as a dynamic becoming, rather than a static object. In this context, we consider architectural tools not as mere means to represent static and finite expressions, but to investigate the dynamic, layered, pluralistic states of mentioned spatial relations and experiences.

In order to understand and reproduce time-space-event relationships through a series of architectural representations, this exhibition investigates certain Turkish films between 1960-2010, those which depict significantly characteristic spaces and atmospheres. Films allow the construction, deconstruction and reconstruction of sequences into various spatial experiences. By doing so, they provoke new debates in architecture. Within this project, deciphering and rebuilding spatial relationships of films enrich our comprehension of spatial experience and suggest explorations of architectural possibilities.
