Migrants Talking: Arrival in Istanbul, Living in Istanbul
14 Mar 2015, 14:00 – 16:00
Until today, we have been informed about migration and asylum through the research and documentation of the 'host.' This conversation, however, is structured on the principle of hearing on these issues from the subject's voice. During this talk we will be listening to migrants (who have been in Istanbul for different periods of time) about their experience of arriving in the city, how they perceive and experience the city, what kind of problems they have faced with, and if/how they have established networks of solidarity. Afterwards, we will discuss altogether on what could be done for newcomers in future.
Discussants: Majit Kanto, Amadou Burka, Abd Nova, Basem Nabhan, Abdulfattah Lemar
Moderator: Öykü Tümer (Mülteci Hakları Merkezi/Center for Refugee Rights)
The panel will be held in English.
This conversation is being held in framework of Architecture of Peace and Vocabulary of Hospitality exhibitions.
