From Binary Opposition to Positive Dialectics: A practice in New York City

Koray Duman, AIA, LEED is originally from Turkey where he earned a Barch from Middle East Technical University. Koray furthered his studies at UCLA Graduate School of Architecture. He previously worked at Frederick Fisher and Partners in Los Angeles, where he was the lead architect for the Oceanside Museum of Art and Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Duman is a registered architect in New York State and Turkey, and a LEED Associate. He won the ‘Best of the Year’ award in 2012 from Interior Design Magazine and the Rising Star Award in 2011. Duman recently won the HIP Award at Neocon 2014 in Chicago.

Buro is a research and idea driven architectural practice in New York City led by Koray Duman. The studio believes that existing boundaries in architecture and design can be expanded upon and propelled via critical thinking and courage. The studio’s work includes flagship stores for Design Within Reach, headquarters of Council of Fashion Designers of America, a studio renovation and building for artist Richard Prince and prototype for a new Cultural Center. The studio is currently participating in New Inc, the New Museum incubator for art, design and tech-based companies. Buro’s work has been exhibited internationally and featured in publications including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Interior Design Magazine, Architectural Record and Dwell.
