• 50/50 Istanbul

Within the Istanbul Urban Age conference 2009, Superpool was asked to choose a problematic area and develop solutions:

How do you plan a parking strategy in a city that has more than 2.5 million private cars, with a daily increase of 400? Currently Istanbul can accommodate only 250,000 cars in designated car park areas, the rest appropriate streets, sidewalks and many open urban spaces.

On these poorly designed streets with many parked cars, there is a vivid public life that defies any predictions or plans. Superpool proposed a system parking structures within two minutes walking distance in residential neighborhoods. This relocation of the cars and reclaiming of parking spaces will require minimal intervention but will create the maximum amount of much needed open spaces that can be used by the residents.
